Bookan Chambered Cairn - 2002
|
| First excavated in the 19th century, this Neolithic chambered cairn
overlooks the lochs of Stenness and Harray and will have been prominent
on the skyline when the Ring of Brogar was built. Since its excavation
it has been suffering badly from being trampled by cattle and burrowed
by rabbits, and is now a rather sad-looking site. |
 |
| Nick Card, with the assistance of Dr Colin Richards and
students from Manchester and Orkney, is re-excavating parts of this
chambered cairn to retrieve evidence relating to its construction and
date. |
