Is this, or is it not, a site where Standing Stones were quarried?
Certainly legend has it that this is where the stones for the Ring of Brogar came from. Lying on the hillside and quarried out of the rock nearby are huge stones of standing stone size.

They lie chocked up and ready to go. It is rare in Orkney to find quarrying places where the flag rock has sufficiently few lateral faults to get great lengths of stone. Just above the site is a chambered cairn, and below is a prehistoric enclosure.
Dr Colin Richards, who is an expert on Orkney's Neolithic, will attempt to find the answers to the question this summer.
