In September 1999 local farmer Douglas Paterson of Tankerness in Orkney rediscovered a remarkable underground structure which had remained half forgotten and almost consigned to the annals of local folklore since its original discovery over 50 years ago.

The excavations at Minehowe are funded by Historic Scotland, Orkney Islands Council , Time Team and Orkney Enterprise. The site will be directed by Jane Downes of Orkney College for the Orkney Archaeological Trust with assistance from Julie Gibson and Nick Card. It is hoped that as the dig proceeds you will be introduced to and come to know all the members of the team.
